Kurt A. Phelps
President
Why did you start GNR?
I was a top recruiter with a large organization. But I believed there was a better model for running a successful recruiting firm. We started GNR to create a new type of recruiting firm, one that:
 • Has experts focused on specific hi-tech industries and technology
 • 100% cold call recruits into our clients' competitors
 • Splits the traditional role of the recruiter into 2 parts:
    Account Manager and Technical Recruiter

We started GNR to offer a service to our clients that they cannot get through internal staffing, and that's the ability to call directly into competitors to source the best talent in the world.

What is your vision for GNR?
We're building the largest hi-tech recruiting firm in the United States. Just as importantly, our vision is to become a true partner with our clients, filling a piece of the recruiting puzzle that they cannot do on their own.

What are your credentials?
I'm an engineer by training (BSME from RIT). I've been a successful recruiter for more than 10 years, including being a top producer for a national recruiting firm.

What do you like best about being a recruiter?
I get to work with some of the best companies in the world helping them find the people who are literally going to change the future. I'm a technology guy, so the opportunity to interact with so many cutting edge developments and so many brilliant people gets me excited about what I do.

What's the secret of your success?
Our success comes from the simple fact that we work hard. We're dedicated to our clients; we're able to quickly adapt to changes in the market, and we're very aggressive. While it often means long hours, we do what it really takes to be successful for our clients.

President Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, Manufacturing & Medical Divisions
Why did you start GNR?
I'm an entrepreneur at heart. When I started in the recruiting industry, I quickly accelerated and found myself a career. However with my motivation, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit—and my successful recruiting experience, I wanted to start my own business.

When we started GNR, I wanted to create something significantly better than the recruiting services offered at my last job. I progressed quickly as a top performer, looked to improve the recruiting process to continue delivering qualified applicants. We shared a common business approach; to build a high caliber team to work with and deliver incredibly successful results for our clients.

What is your vision for GNR?
My vision is to build upon our success and continue to increase our effectiveness in delivering career opportunities. We will become an even stronger leader in supplying executive and technical talent to the companies that are on the forefront of technology. We will make a real difference in our clients' futures.

What are your credentials?
I started as an Engineer working for a Fortune 500 company. It was a great experience, but I always wanted to be more involved with people. When the opportunity presented itself to become a technical recruiter, I jumped at it, and very quickly became a top producer in my firm generating over a million dollars of bookings a year.

I have had more than 12 very successful years of recruiting technical talent. I've had success on a national scale with mid- to senior level individuals (engineers, managers and executives) My client base has ranged from start-ups to many Fortune 100 companies, such as Motorola, Sony, Lucent, Hitachi, 3Com, EMC, Raytheon.

What do you like best about being a recruiter?
Being an engineer, I still enjoy technology. What better position to be in than to help place individuals into better career opportunities where they will develop the newest technologies.

I also love building a successful and dynamic recruiting organization. I enjoy getting to spend my days working with so many talented people-both on our team at GNR and with our clients and candidates. I take great pride in my ability to develop our Account Managers and Technical Recruiters, and in turn seeing how many people we are able to help in their careers.

What's the secret of your success?
Motivation. Passion. We really enjoy what we do—which helps us do it that much better. Of course, having a deep understanding of technology and a good business sense is also critical to our success.
